I left home at the age of 19 with no direction in life. Enlisting in the United States Navy (February 2001) in Massachusetts, I ended up being stationed in Gulfport MS with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 7 (Seabees).

I began my first tour of duty as a 13B cannon crewmember, in Camp Hovey, South Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division, 2/17 Field Artillery battery. As a member of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, I served my country as an ammunition team chief with Charlie 3/320 Field Artillery.

I’ve 17 years and 9 months of service which span over the United States Army, US Army Reserves, Army Guard Reserve, and the National Guard.

I initially came to the Coatesville VA Medical Center (Pennsylvania) for assistance, as I was a Homeless Female Veteran with multiple health conditions.  At that point in my life, I felt my life was rapidly spinning out of my control.

When I joined the United States Air Force (USAF), I had no idea the magnitude of how it would affect my subsequent employment years. I was an inventory management specialist and performed well in my field. The discipline, training skills development and sense of purpose carried on after discharge. As a disabled vet, I felt that the Federal Government offered the best chance I had to excel as a civilian.

In 1992 I was honorably discharged from the US Navy for medical conditions. A wonderful veteran name John Ciecko assisted me in securing my Veteran's Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits. I was able to obtain both my bachelor's degree and master's degree (in just 4 years) while enrolled in that program.

After working my way up from an enlisted Navy Cryptologic Technician to a Navy Information Warfare officer and then retiring from active duty, I had a difficult time finding an employer that appreciated the work ethic and team work I came to expect in the military.
