Resources for Americans with Disabilities

GSA is dedicated to supporting Americans with disabilities in the workplace and beyond. GSA has a rich history of inclusion and is committed to creating a more accessible society, engaging in numerous efforts to create a more open government. This page will serve as a central resource for all related GSA web links.

GSA'S COMMITMENT TO WORKPLACE SUPPORT

Denise Pease, GSA Regional Administrator for the Northeast and Caribbean Region, introduces resources and GSA programs -- from hiring to facility design -- that provide workplace support to Americans with disabilities.

HOW TO GET HIRED

Come work at GSA! We are one of the best places to work in the federal government, and we know you’ll find a home here. We actively support President Obama's Executive Order 13548 to increase the federal employment of people with disabilities, including veterans with disabilities.

We actively support all of our employees and offer reasonable accommodations to ensure you have the tools you need to make a difference at GSA.

GSA uses the Schedule A authority to move Americans with qualifying disabilities directly into positions. Schedule A hiring authority removes barriers and increases employment opportunities for those with disabilities, enabling GSA to move qualified people into positions through a non-competitive process.

Visit the Office of Personnel Management's website on employing people with disabilities to learn more about Schedule A authority.

2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). GSA hopes to serve as the model for opening government, and government services, to the nearly 54 million Americans who live with disabilities.

MAKING GOVERNMENT ACCESSIBLE

GSA is your advocate for ensuring facilities are designed and built to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. From building to purchasing to policy, GSA is actively involved in making your government accessible. GSA develops policies guaranteeing government technology is available to all Americans.

ACCESSIBLE FACILITY DESIGN

When we build and renovate federal buildings, we include a core set of rules that ensures each federal building is accessible to all individuals with disabilities.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES

By making assistive-technology accommodations available to its employees with disabilities, GSA provides connections to information and tools required to excel in the workplace. We at GSA also partner with other federal agencies to provide policies and the most innovative technological solutions in support of all Americans with Disabilities.
