American Recovery & Reinvestment Act
$500 million in ARRA funding will bolster and expand the health professions workforce:
- $200 million targets health professions training programs to strengthen the workforce in key areas
- $300 million supports programs for health professions students and clinicians, including the National Health Service Corps Scholarship and Loan Repayment programs, Student/Resident Experiences and Rotations in Community Health, Nursing Education Loan Repayment and Nurse Faculty Loan programs, and Faculty Loan Repayment Program.
For the past several years, health professions training programs have been significantly underfunded and shortages have continued to grow. Recognizing the need to address this issue, President Obama included funding that will help to train health professionals.

Did You Know?
- Approximately 8,000 individuals (students and credentialed health professionals) will be assisted by ARRA-funded Health Professions programs.
- Recipients of ARRA-funded Health Professions grants will report quarterly on the number of students trained, program completers, jobs created, funds expended and percentage of project completed.
