Young names Bloomington resident Pamela Kroskie as 2012 Angel in Adoption

Rep. Todd Young announced today that Pamela Kroskie of Bloomington has been selected as the 2012 Angels in Adoption awardee for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District for her outstanding advocacy of adoption issues.

An adoptee herself, Kroskie works on behalf of other adoptees by organizing various legislative activities that promote equal rights for adoptees and their families. She will be honored by Congressman Young and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), which orchestrates the service program, at an awards ceremony and gala event in Washington, D.C., in September.

“Pam is a great example of the difference that one person can make through determination and hard work,” Young said. “She has been a tireless advocate of adoption issues and the rights of adopted children. Her service and passion is admired by many, and especially by me.”

Kroskie was selected to receive this prestigious award because of her advocacy work. As a representative of the state of Indiana on the American Adoption Congress, she advocates for adult adoptee's rights to their biological and medical history, including original birth certificates. She also educates people about the lifelong journey of adoption through a monthly radio show that reaches listeners across the country. Additionally, Pamela serves on the board for the Monroe County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

In the fall of each year, the bicameral, bipartisan Congressional Coalition on Adoption sponsors the Angels in Adoption program to honor those who have enlightened foster children and orphans in the United States and abroad. The Angel(s) selected for each participating district will be invited to Washington, D.C., to meet with Young and other Congressional leaders to share their experiences and learn about advocacy opportunities. The program concludes with a gala to honor Angels from across the country who have raised awareness about foster care and adoption on a national or global level.
