Mammography

A mammogram is a safe, low-dose x-ray of the breast. It is still the best tool we have to find breast cancer early and save lives.

The FDA enforces the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 to ensure that women are getting consistent, reliable, and safe mammograms. The FDA regulates the quality and standards of mammography devices and ensures that facility personnel and staff have received proper training. The FDA inspects all places that offer mammograms, including:

  • Clinics
  • Hospitals
  • Doctors’ offices
  • Mammography vans
