The U.S. Department of Education’s Under Secretary Martha Kanter, Chief of Staff Joanne Weiss, and Assistant Secretary Brenda Dann-Messier will travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., on Friday, Sept. 14 for a visit to Laramie County Community College, where they will participate in a town hall on education and the economy moderated by Laramie County Community College President Joe Schaffer.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Assistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education Brenda Dann-Messier travels to Rock Springs, Wyo., on Thursday, Sept. 13 to visit Rock Springs High School, where she will tour the school’s career academies and host a roundtable discussion on career and technical education with students, faculty, staff, and business partners.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Wyoming will receive $17.5 million to support education jobs.

"There is a huge sense of urgency to get these funds out the door," said Duncan. "These education dollars will help Wyoming keep teachers in the classroom working with our students this school year."

Wyoming to Receive $8.6 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Wyoming will receive $8.6 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Wyoming to Receive $1.22 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest-Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Wyoming will receive $1.22 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the Education Department's School Improvement Grants (SIG). The funds are part of $546 million available to states and D.C. under the program. In fiscal year 2009, states received a total of $3.5 billion in SIG support.

This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.
