PSA & Multimedia

In order to encourage Americans to prepare themselves, their families, and their communities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with The Advertising Council, has sponsored public service advertisements (PSAs) that educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies.

The Ready Campaign has created suites of advertisements directed towards individuals and families, owners and managers of small and medium-sized business, and Spanish speakers. Because the Ready ads are PSAs, they run entirely in donated media space. Business PSAs include radio, print, outdoor, and Web advertisements. Listo PSAs include television, radio, print, outdoor, and web advertisements.

To view all of the Ready Campaign's PSAs visit the Ad Council Web site www.adcouncil.tv or http://psacentral.adcouncil.org.

Ready Instructional Videos

In order to encourage Americans to prepare themselves, their families and their communities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with The Advertising Council, has created instructional videos to help educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies. The first set of instructional videos, released in English and Spanish, are designed to detail how American families get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies in their community. FEMA and the Ad Council have also created additional instructional videos with specific information for pet owners, older Americans and individuals with disabilities. All Ready Instructional Videos include American Sign Language and closed captioning. View all of the Ready Campaign's Instructional Videos.

Consequences

To coincide with NPM, Spanish-language and English-language PSAs were released in September 2010. The television, radio, outdoor, and Web PSAs promote the idea that preparing today will help reduce the consequences of a disaster tomorrow, encourage Americans to prepare and direct audiences to visit www.listo.gov or www.ready.gov where they can find tools and resources to prepare.

Business

To coincide with the start of Hurricane Season 2011, Ready launched a series of Business PSAs. The PSAs promote the idea that by taking steps ahead of time, many small- to medium-sized businesses can be better prepared to survive and recover after an emergency. The nationwide effort was developed in partnership with the American Red Cross, and direct audiences to visit www.ready.gov/business for online resources, including the Red Cross' Ready Rating business preparedness tool. Ads are available for TV, radio, print, outdoor and Internet, visit Ready Business to view the complete suite of advertisements.

Business Continuity Planning Suite Introductory Video

A humorous, short video that introduces viewers to the concept of business continuity planning and highlights the benefits of having a plan. Two men in an elevator experience a spectrum of disasters from a loss of power, to rain, fire, and a human threat. One man is prepared for each disaster and the other is not.

The Weather Channel®

In advance of National Preparedness Month 2010, The Weather Channel® (TWC) joined Ready to launch a new series of PSAs featuring TWC's on-camera meteorologist Jim Cantore and a real family who lost their home to a natural disaster. In the television advertisements Cantore encourages all Americans to follow the Ready Campaign's three simple steps to be prepared for emergencies. The ads will run on TWC and will be distributed to national, cable, and local broadcast networks.

World Upside Down

In September 2009, to coincide with National Preparedness Month (NPM), general market PSAs were released. The television, radio, outdoor, and Web PSAs utilize the metaphor that a disaster can turn your world and your family's life "upside down," to encourage Americans to prepare and direct audiences to visit www.ready.gov where they can find tools and resources to prepare.
