Molecular Libraries Program


Carson Loomis has served as program director in the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) since May 1, 2005. Dr. Loomis is co-lead with Dr. Linda Brady and project scientist with Dr. Ingrid Li on the Molecular Libraries Program (MLP), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund's Molecular Library and Imaging Initiative at the NIH.

Dr. Loomis has over 30 years research experience in academia and industry investigating the interaction and regulation of protein function by small molecules. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Boston University Medical School and did his postdoctoral training at Duke University Medical Center before going to work in industry.

Dr. Loomis has been a founder and vice president of research at three successful startup companies. In 1991 he co-founded Sphinx Pharmaceuticals. In 1997, he cofounded Xanthon, Inc. and in June 2000, Dr. Loomis became a co-founder and vice president Norak Biosciences, Inc. Norak was a drug discovery company with patented imaging technology for the High Content Screening (HCS) of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs).
