Hello Congressman Gibson, First of all, thank you so much for your support of Audit the Fed. This is a very important issue to me and many other Americans, and I'm happy to know there are people in Washington interested in preserving the value of our dollar. That said, I was hoping you could answer a question for me. Would you consider sponsoring a bill that authorizes a commodity-based currency to compete with the dollar to provide the market with choices? Currently, outside of bartering, we have no choice but to use the dollar in the US to buy goods and services. As you know, the supply of dollars is controlled by the Federal Reserve. When they lower interest rates and/or bailout foreign central banks as they've done recently, they increase the money supply, which creates inflation. Inflation diminishes the value of savings of hard working Americans. Essentially, inflation is taxation, and it's most harmful to the middle class and poor. Currently, we can buy and sell commodities with dollars. However, we must pay sales tax and capital gains tax, which drastically diminishes the value of our investments. It also creates hurdles for those of us who'd like to make quick exchanges. Example: In 2004, gold was $400/oz. Today, gold is $1,600/oz. If a commodity backed currency were available in 2004, many average Americans would have been able to get through the 2008 financial crises unscathed, just by having their savings in a gold-backed currency rather than dollars. In fact, instead of losing substantial net worth, they would have had a great chance to drastically increase their net worth! The most beneficial part of a commodity backed currency would be the accountability of those at the Federal Reserve and those at Wall Street. It'd be a natural force of regulation. As I'm sure you know, competition in the market is good. We don't allow monopolies in this country on anything except our money. It's about time we change that! Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Adam R. Pensel

With H.R. 4133, United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012, you voted yes to "Offer the Israeli Air Force additional training and exercise opportunities in the United States to compensate for Israel’s limited air space." -and- "to help Israel preserve its qualitative military edge amid rapid and uncertain regional political transformation" -and- "Actions to integrate Israel into the defense of the Eastern Mediterranean." This bill states that it is the policy of the United States to "reaffirm the enduring commitment of the United States to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish state." However, according to our Constitution the policy of the United States government should be to protect the security of the United States, not to guarantee the religious, ethnic, or cultural composition of a foreign country. This bill will not help the United States, it will not help Israel, and it will not help the Middle East. It will implicitly authorize much more US interventionism in the region at a time when we cannot afford the foreign commitments we already have. It more likely will lead to war against Syria, Iran, or both. Explain your yes vote.

  2. Just returned from New York Farm Day, an event hosted on the Senate side of the Capitol by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand showcasing to our fellow Members of Congress the farmers, wineries and restaurants we have in Upstate New York. I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces, and remain committed to helping our farmers by pushing for a vote on the Farm Bill legislation the House Agriculture Committee passed.

  3. Eleven years ago, terrorists attacked on our country. Today gives us an opportunity for reflection on the American lives that were lost in New York, at the Pentagon, and on a field in Pennsylvania, as well as the many sacrifices of all of those who have kept us safe in the years that have followed. Today stirs old emotions...of grief, of anger, of resolve. Today also reminds us of a time Americ...

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were lost as well as with the servicemembers and first responders who defend our cherished way of life around the globe and here at home. I am thankful every day for their sacrifices.
