Press and Public Diplomacy Section

The U.S. Mission’s Press and Public Diplomacy section is responsible for communicating U.S. foreign policy positions to the public on behalf of the Permanent Representative and the senior leadership.  It also serves as the primary conduit for the Mission’s contact with the general public.

To promote understanding of United States policy at the United Nations, the Press and Public Diplomacy section manages three major areas of communications for the Mission: media relations, community outreach and correspondence.  Our media relations team explains U.S. policy to domestic and international media, including the U.N. press corps, and facilitates interview requests. Our community outreach team establishes and maintains regular contacts with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the academic community, in addition to arranging external speaking engagements and panel discussions featuring the ambassadors and other senior Mission officers.  Finally, our correspondence team facilitates discussions with the thousands of people who contact USUN on a weekly basis seeking to gain information about the United States position on various issues, share their comments regarding global affairs or offer their opinions.  The Press and Public Diplomacy Section is the main point of contact for hundreds of U.S. student groups and others who make requests to visit the U.S. Mission in New York.
