WASHINGON, DC - Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield), voted in favor of H.J. Res 117, legislation that funds the federal government until April and increases support for veterans and programs at the National Labs in Livermore.

"We have more to do in fulfilling our solemn obligation to our veterans, but this legislation moves us a big step forward by increasing funding to help disabled veterans," said Congressman Garamendi. "I will continue to push for my bills to help protect the reemployment rights of our veterans, continue to ensure my office connects veterans with the resources they have earned, and continue to consult with veterans on how we can best meet their needs."

Specifically, H.J. Res 117 contains:

  • A provision allowing additional funding for the Veterans Administration to meet an increase in the disability claims workload.
  • A provision allowing additional funding and flexibility to sustain Homeland Security cybersecurity efforts.
  • A provision allowing additional funding for nuclear weapons modernization efforts, to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the nation’s nuclear stockpile.
  • A provision allowing flexibility for the Customs and Border Protection to maintain current staffing levels.
A provision allowing additional funding for the Interior Department and the Forest Service for wildfire suppression efforts.

Garamendi added, "Sandia and Lawrence-Livermore National Labs conduct work that is critical to our national security. This legislation provides the necessary funding to carry out their respective missions."
