SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Cross Map – Preview Release
NLM is pleased to announce availability of a new SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Cross Map. The map is designed to support semi-automated generation of ICD-10-CM codes from clinical data encoded in SNOMED CT for reimbursement and statistical purposes.
This preview version provides mapping from 7,277 SNOMED CT concepts. In June 2012 NLM will provide an updated version to the map with mapping from approximately 15, 000 SNOMED CT concepts.
In creating the map NLM made significant use of mapping data previously produced by the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) and the United Kingdom National Health Service (UK NHS) Terminology Centre, which provided access to data and tools from the SNOMED CT to ICD-10 Crossmap Project, and Kaiser Permanente, which included basic mappings to ICD-10-CM in some of the Convergent Medical Terminology (CMT) content which they have donated to the IHTSDO for US distribution via the NLM. We thank the IHTSDO, the UK NHS Terminology Centre, and Kaiser Permanente for these contributions, which significantly reduced the resources and time required to produce the SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CM Map.
