Current Position:
Director, Clinical Islet Transplantation Program

Current Portfolio/Responsibilities:
Oversee clinical islet transplantation research portfolio. This includes the Clinical Islet Transplantation Consortium, comprising five clinical centers, a coordinating center, and seven satellite clinical sites overseen in collaboration with NIAID. This consortium has developed eight clinical protocols including two pivotal trials. One of the trials involves Islet After Kidney transplantation, which is Congressionally mandated. Islet Transplantation involves multiple Institutes and Department and Human Health agencies (FDA, Health Resources Services Administration, and CMS), as well as interaction with private funding entities such as the JDRF.
