Do you snack while watching TV or spend most of your free time in front of a video game or computer screen? If so, you’re not doing your body any favors.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

According to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines, strong evidence shows that screen time is directly associated with increased overweight and obesity in children, adolescents, and adults. Also, eating while watching TV can lead to overeating.

Now here’s some good news – regular physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid excessive weight gain. Keep in mind, the amount of physical activity that you need to maintain a healthy weight depends upon your calorie intake and varies among adults.
