If you had gestational diabetes during pregnancy, did you know that your child from that pregnancy is at risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes?
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Women who have had gestational diabetes are at increased risk for diabetes in the future. They also need to know that their child from that pregnancy is also at risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Because of this increased risk, it’s important to tell your child’s doctor that you had gestational diabetes and discuss how you can keep your child’s weight in a healthy range.
You should also help your child make healthy food choices, and be physically active at least 60 minutes a day.
And for more tips, visit our website, yourdiabetesinfo.org, or MyMajicDC.com . This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
