Fall is fast approaching, and the cooler weather is perfect for taking brisk walks. So what’s so great about walking?
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you “Healthy Moments” from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
Did you know that just by walking, you can lower your risk for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes? Walking can also give you more energy and make you feel good.
To stay healthy, it’s important to get at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most, if not all, days—and walking counts.
Here are some tips to help you step into fall:
- Set-aside regular times every week to walk.
- Get a friend or group to walk with you.
- And keep track of your progress with a walking journal or log.
And for more tips, visit our website at NIDDK, or MyMajicDC.com . This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
