If you just found out that you have diabetes, or if you’re struggling with it—you’re not alone. 3.7 million African Americans, age 20 and over, have diabetes.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

To control your diabetes, you need to get your blood sugar into a target range that’s safe for you and manage your blood pressure and cholesterol— collectively called the “ABCs of diabetes.” These steps can reduce your chances of developing other serious health problems, such as kidney and eye disease, heart attack and stroke.

So, talk to your health care team about how to get control of your ABCs, take your medicines as prescribed, and get regular diabetes check-ups.

And for more information, visit our website at yourdiabetesinfo.org or MyMajicDC.com Exit Disclaimer.   This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more Healthy Moments.
