For people with diabetes, making lifestyle changes can be the key to feeling good and staying healthy.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
This man from Virginia has type 2 diabetes, and is on the right track…
“Well, the changes that I have made was [sic], first of all in the morning time, I get up early in the morning, I get on my treadmill for about 20 minutes in the morning, and then at night I get on my treadmill again, about another 30 minutes. I’ll watch what I eat now, I try to stay away from fried foods. I try to stay away from a lot of breads and starch, try to stay away from a lot of macaroni and cheese.”
If you have diabetes, be physically active 30 to 60 minutes most days of the week, and follow a healthy eating plan that includes fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
