Food Safety ensures that the Nation's commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products is safe, wholesome, and properly labeled and packaged. This mission area also plays a key role in the President's Food Safety Working Group, a coordinated government-wide initiative to ensure a safe food supply for the American people for the 21st century. USDA's partners in the Working Group include the Department of Health and Human Services, the Environmental Protection Agency and a number of other government agencies.
FSIS enhances public health and well-being by protecting the public from foodborne illness and ensuring that the nation's meat, poultry and egg products are safe, wholesome, and correctly packaged.
