When you’re on the move, the U.S. Postal Service® offers a range of delivery services designed to fit your lifestyle and your budget. From Premium Forwarding Service® to Post Office™ Boxes, we’ll keep you connected no matter where you roam.

Premium Forwarding Service®

Taking a long vacation? Or an out-of-town assignment? Make sure you don’t miss any bills or other important mail. For just $15.25 a week we’ll hold your mail, package it up, and reship it to you each week by Priority Mail®.

Here’s how Premium Forwarding Service works…

  • Pay $15.00 to enroll in the service and $15.25 for each week you have your mail reshipped.
  • Most mail is bundled and sent to you every Wednesday via Priority Mail, our 2- to 3-day service.
  • Any Express Mail® is automatically rerouted directly to you.
  • Priority Mail items are reshipped right away or included in your weekly shipment as long as their delivery wouldn’t be delayed.
  • First-Class Mail® packages that don’t fit in the weekly shipment, are rerouted separately at no extra cost.

To sign up, go to PFS Online™ or stop by your local Post Office with two forms of ID and evidence of residence at the primary address. tooltip icon

Some packages will arrive at the temporary address with postage due.

  • Standard Mail® pieces are included in a weekly shipment if they fit. Otherwise, they’re shipped postage due at the 1 lb Parcel Post® price.
  • Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail®, and Library Mail pieces aren’t included in Premium Forward Service shipments. They are shipped postage due with the service originally used to send them. 

Also keep in mind:

  • Premium Forwarding Service is available only within the U.S.
  • Once you permanently change your address, you’ll have to stop using this service.
  • Business addresses and centralized delivery points are not usually eligible for this service.

What counts as valid ID and proof of residency?

You’ll need to show one picture ID and one other form of ID. The Post Office will accept a…

  • Driver's license or state ID card.
  • Military, government, university, or recognized corporate ID.
  • Passport, alien registration card, or certificate of naturalization.
  • Current lease, mortgage, or deed of trust.
  • Voter or vehicle registration card.
  • Home or vehicle insurance policy.
