Hello. I'm sure your local Small Business Development Center can help you. Go to www.asbdc-us.org to find an office near you.

Where can I go to get grants for my business. The grants would be used specifically for marketing my business. Also, are there any other marketing sources?

There are a number of resources available to help entrepreneurs start and grow businesses – including loans and training. You also can go to www.grants.gov, but you really need some experience in applying or get assistance.
• Contact your local Small Business Development Center. Go to www.asbdc-us.org to find an office near you.
• Connect with a business mentor. Visit www.score.org or call 1-800-624-0345 to find a SCORE chapter in your area.
• Contact the U.S. Small Business Administration at 1-800-827-5722 or submit your question to answerdesk@sba.gov.

I have chosen a name for my new business, how can I determine if it has been registered before or if this name is available?
jaardappel's picture

You can conduct a search in several places. Start with the US Patent and Trademark Office: http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/process/search/
You can also do web searches for that name and finally go to the Secretary of State in the state you want to conduct business and find out if they have a way to search on business names registered.

You need to find out from your state's website. Go to the Secretary of State website for your state to find out more info.
