Description

The Science Reference Section, Science, Technology and Business Division provides reference services and serves as a focal point for the millions of books, journals, and technical reports on scientific and technological topics at the Library of Congress (LC). Direct reference services are provided to users by telephone, by mail, or in person. Bibliographic guides by reference librarians provide indirect reference service. The Section also has primary responsibility for recommending LC acquisitions in all fields of science and technology except technical agriculture and clinical medicine. An informal series of reference guides produced by the Division--the LC Science Tracer Bullet Series--is designed to help the researcher with only a general knowledge of a given topic to locate basic published materials on the subject. Individual Tracer Bullets and a master list of the Tracer Bullet series are available free from the Science, Technology and Business Division. They are also available on the Web at http://lcweb2.loc.gov/sctb.

Print Resources

Publications Prepared by the Science and Technology Division, 1940-1992, includes a list of Tracer Bullets with a short description of each. There are also various guides to the use of the Science Reading Room, including the publication How to Find Technical Reports in the Library of Congress.
