Founded in 1979, the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The ABEM is an independent, non-profit organization whose certificate states that a physician has successfully completed a rigorous program of graduate medical education and training, and then passed an examination designed to assess his or her knowledge, skills, and experience.
