Healthy People 2020

On Thursday, December 2, 2010 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion launched Healthy People 2020. Exit Notification

For more than 30 years, Healthy People has provided a public health roadmap with science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of the nation. Healthy People has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time in order to encourage collaborations across sectors, guide individuals toward making informed health decisions, and measure the impact of prevention activities.

The Tobacco Use chapter is comprised of 20 objectives divided into 3 topic areas: Tobacco Use (i.e. adult prevalence, youth prevalence), Health Systems Changes (i.e. screening, counseling), and Social and Environmental Changes (i.e. smoke-free indoor air laws, price). Each objective includes a nationally representative and reliable data source, baseline estimate, and target for specific improvements to be achieved by the year 2020.

Check out what's new for Healthy People 2020.
