If you’ve searched for vacancies on USAJOBS 3.0, you may wonder why there are so many U.S. Forest Service opportunities. This is because the forests and grasslands they protect are spread across the country, and are cumulatively the size of Texas. The Forest Service manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest forestry research organization in the world. They are seeking applicants for some 12,000 fire and aviation management temporary opportunities across 1,300 locations nationwide during the peak fire season months, May to September.

This hiring effort could not be accomplished without USAJOBS 3.0, which allows the Forest Service to post nationwide vacancy announcements that enable applicants to apply just once for multiple opportunities throughout the United States. Without this flexibility, the Forest Service would never be able to hire thousands of employees simultaneously to protect one of our greatest national treasures – our Forests.

Temporary employees have a very special place within the Forest Service. After all, most Forest Service career employees started out in temporary positions. Seeking a temporary or seasonal job with the Forest Service is a great way to learn about the different career opportunities available. It is also an excellent way to meet people within the organization and hone your skills so you will be well prepared for a permanent position, should you choose to pursue one.

We all know how valuable protecting our national lands is to the United States and to our future generations. These lands are protected by people just like you; people committed to ensuring our legacy remains as strong and vital as it is today. If you are interested in joining the Forest Service team, review and apply to their vacancy announcements on the USAJOBS website.
