    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: A new system is needed to complement our existing system for reporting, data management, and user availability, can you help?

A: We will help you decide on the best course of action for your organization, and advise you on system design considerations, whether to use COTS software or have custom applications designed for your in-house database system.

Q: My projects span multiple platforms, are your consultants trained to support various environments?
A: Yes. Our consultants are trained in multiple network and operating system environments.

Q: I need a Project Manager to oversee the development of a new tracking system.  If I come to CIT for this need, who will manage my project?
A:  A Project Manager with proven skills will manage your project and client relationships. The first step would be to meet with you and gain an understanding of your needs.   We will select a Project Manager according to your specific requirements.

Q: What does the Project Manager do?
A:  The Project Manager plans the work, leads the team to ensure that the project is on track and running smoothly, and prepares status reports. The Project Manager is the primary contact during the course of the project.

Q: What are the benefits of using Project Management Services?
A: The benefits of using experienced Project Management Services can be realized in the quality of the final product.  By using a qualified management team with project management experience we can reduce the time to complete your project.

Q: When should I consider using CIT project management services?
A: There are a variety of reasons for using CIT Project Management Services.   For example, if you do not have in-house expertise or if you have too many projects for existing staff to handle, we can help you.

Q: Shouldn't our own managers be able to run projects?
A: Yes, if your employees have specific project management skills and are tasked solely with guiding the project. In practice, though, project management is often an add-on to an employee's regular responsibilities or assigned based on availability. An effective project manager focuses on project processes: facilitating decision-making as an objective third party, building detailed project roadmaps, coordinating activities and communications, and ensuring that carefully made plans are carried out by all participants. Project managers must have honed organizational and interpersonal skills, and be as immune as possible from internal political pressures in order to act effectively among multiple individuals and teams.
Q: In what areas of software development can Systems Assurance help?
A: Systems Assurance can help with configuration management, quality assurance, and independent testing for software development projects.

Q: Our projects are requiring Quality Assurance oversight; can Systems Assurance Services provide a Quality Assurance program for us?
A: Yes, Systems Assurance can implement quality plans, value added metrics, compliance reviews, and lessons learned capabilities for your hardware or software projects.

Q: What is software configuration control?
A: Software Configuration Control is concerned with managing changes during the software life cycle. It covers the process for determining what changes to make, the authority for approving certain changes, support for the implementation of those changes, the tracking of formal deviations from project requirements, and waivers for the deviations.
