    • Dear Lois, I want to thank you for all you do for us. On Sept. 10th I attended an Advocate for Arthritis Conference. (I’m not sure I like that title because I want to advocate for the “cure” for arthritis) The next day our group went to the Capitol to talk to our California Senators and Representatives. Our goal was to ask them to vote to stop the 30% cut to Medicare physician payments starting Jan. 2013, support increases in the NIH budget for research, and to co-sponsor the bipartisan Patients’ Access to Treatments Act (H.R. 4209). We visited Sen. Boxer’s, Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s, and Sen. Feinstein’s Legislative Assistants. I needed to leave to catch my plane so I missed visiting with you but I wasn’t worried because you ARE a co-sponsor of the HR4209 already! For that I want to say Thank You sooo much. I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and I am on Medicare. I do not know what I would do if Medicare were to make more cuts.

    •  We still need 102 co-sponsors of HR 719 to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Civil Air Patrol WWII members. These brave men and woman defended the homeland during the war and deserve recognition. Please add your name to the list of co-sponsors from California. Please visit www.facebook.com/cgmcawg for more information.

I'm disappointed in the change you have adopted this year in campaigning. In the past hour, I've heard 2 attack type ads aimed at Maldenaro. On his end, I've heard 2 ads that were directed towards government in general. What gives? It certainly changes my opinion of you as a politician.

    • Please cosponsor the ABLE Act (S. 1872/HR 3423)! As a constituent, I would like to request that you cosponsor this bill and help my family save for my child's future just like every other American family. Did you know that my family member with a disability can only save $2,000 in assets to remain eligible for services? The ABLEAct is VERY important to me and I want to save for my child’s future just like everyone else. Please cosponsor the ABLE Act (S. 1872/HR 3423) today

Please please listen to the people. We all object to destroying our marine life! Deanna Al-Hariri PO Box 2184 Avila Beach, CA 93424 Resolution Opposing Diablo Canyon Seismic testing Whereas; California enjoys a multi-billion dollar ocean based economy providing jobs, food, recreation and research opportunities, and Whereas; The Marine Life Protection Act was mandated by the Legislature, and led by the California Fish and Game Commission to create a series of Marine Protected Areas along the coast of California in a seven-year process to return our ocean to health and abundance, and Whereas; Seismic testing at Diablo Canyon would entail 260db sonic blasts, have a catastrophic effect on whales and marine life off our coast, including in the Point Buchon State Marine Reserve, would yield only moderate scientific results, and would not change the precarious situation of having a nuclear plant sited on an earthquake fault, So be it resolved; We, the members of Stop Diablo Canyon Seismic Testing do hereby resolve that the health of the marine ecosystem, including our whales, is more important to our community than keeping Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant in operation and, So be it resolved We, the members of Stop Diablo Canyon Seismic Testing do hereby resolve to oppose such destructive seismic testing wherever and whenever it is proposed in the sea So be it resolved, on this 10th day of September, 2012 Deanna Al-Hariri Concerned resident of Avila Beach

  2. My heart goes out to the families of Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, and the two other victims of last night’s horrific attack in Libya. Like our men and women in the military, our foreign service officers put their lives on the line every day serving their country.
  3. BREAKING NEWS: Two bipartisan bills I co-authored, the National Pediatric Research Network Act (H.R. 6163) and the Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act (H.R. 4124), just passed the Energy and Commerce House Subcommittee unanimously! The National Pediatric Research Network Act is designed to help increase research and accelerate the development of clinical trials to treat rare pediatric diseases. And the Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act would help states streamline their certification requirements for veterans with military emergency medical technician (EMT) training so they can more quickly become EMTs in the civilian workforce.

  5. Every year on September 11th we mourn for the thousands who lost their lives on that fateful morning and for the families and friends they left behind. We must always remember this tragic event, and remain vigilant against those who would do our country harm. It is also a time to honor the commitment of the men and women in our military, and their families, who every day safeguard the freedoms we...
hold so dear. Finally, we must not forget how on September 11th this country came together, standing united in support of freedom, tolerance, and equality. America's strength is most evident when we stand as one people, united in our commitment to one another and the liberty we enjoy. That strength is especially important to recall in these challenging times. I hope all Americans will work toward achieving that unity on this National Day of Service, the largest annual display of charity and volunteerism in our country, and an incredible reminder of what we can do as a community and a nation when we work together.

  6. September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to learn the warning signs of suicide and how to help. One way you can do that is by joining the VA’s suicide prevention campaign. Go to www.veteranscrisisline.net to learn the signs of a crisis and spread the word about the Veterans Crisis Line among Veterans and their friends and family members.
  7. Yesterday I was so excited to join officials from Cal Poly’s College of Agriculture, the California Conservation Corps, Morro Bay National Estuary Program, and other state and federal agencies to celebrate the completion of Cal Poly’s Rainwater Harvesting Demonstration Project. This project is a win-win for Cal Poly, our local farmers and ranchers, and our environment!
A sweet moment of recognition for all the hard work on this project! Congresswoman Lois Capps helps a member of the CCC cut the ribbon while NOAA, MBNEP, Sierra Watershed Progressive, and Cal Poly staff look on.

  12. Yesterday, Department of Energy officials visited the new Albertson’s in Carpinteria to highlight how the building meets President Obama’s Better Building Challenge. Thanks to upgrades made to the new 40,000 square foot supermarket, it has one of the lowest energy bills of any store of its size in the country! A great example of how being more energy efficient is good for business. http://www.keyt.com/news/local/US-Energy-Department-Lights-Up-Over-Carpinteria-Store-167632025.html

privatize Social Security and will continue to do so. Did you know the average Social Security benefit was $12,930 for Californians in 2010 and that without it nearly 40% of California seniors would fall below the poverty line?
