Bags and Rolls of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park Quarters Available August 27

WASHINGTON - On August 27, 2012, at noon Eastern Time (ET), the United States Mint will open sales for product options containing America the Beautiful Quarters® coins honoring Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii.  The coin's reverse (tails side) design depicts an eruption on the east rift of Kilauea Volcano, capturing the magnificent beauty of the volcano.  Inscriptions are HAWAI'I VOLCANOES, HAWAII, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM

Available product options include 100-coin bags priced at $34.95 and two-roll sets (40 coins per roll) priced at $32.95.  Both product options contain coins that were struck for general circulation on the main production floors of the United States Mint facilities at Denver and Philadelphia.  The two-roll set includes one roll of coins from each facility.

The bureau is also offering product options containing circulating quality Hawaii Volcanoes National Park quarters struck at the United States Mint at San Francisco.  The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park "S" mint mark quarters will be available in 100-coin bags priced at $34.95 and single 40-coin rolls priced at $18.95 each.  Unlike the "P" and "D" mint mark quarters, those with the "S" mint mark will not be released into circulation.

The special numismatic wrapping for the coin rolls displays the name "Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park;" the abbreviation "HI" for Hawaii; "$10," the value of its contents, and "P," "D" or "S" for the mint of origin.  Each canvas bag has a tag with "Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park," "HI," and "P," "D" or "S."

Orders will be accepted at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).  Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321 MINT (6468).  A shipping and handling charge of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

The Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park quarter is the 14th coin issued in the United States Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program, launched in 2010.  The program is a 12-year initiative to issue 56 quarters featuring reverse designs depicting some of our most cherished national parks and national sites.  The bureau will issue five new quarter designs each year, with one final design in 2021.

The United States Mint was created by Congress in 1792.  This year marks the bureau's 220th anniversary.  The United States Mint is the Nation's sole manufacturer of legal tender coinage and is responsible for producing circulating coinage for the Nation to conduct its trade and commerce.  The United States Mint also produces proof, uncirculated and commemorative coins; Congressional Gold Medals; and silver, gold and platinum bullion coins.

Note:  To ensure that all members of the public have fair and equal access to United States Mint products, orders placed prior to the official on-sale date and time of August 27, 2012, at noon ET, shall not be deemed accepted by the United States Mint and will not be honored.
