Boy Scouts of America Centennial Dollar
My coin for March is a commemorative coin new in 2010. It honors the Boy Scouts of America on its 100th anniversary.
For 100 years, the Boy Scouts have been building character and serving communities. Over the years, the program was expanded to include younger boys through the Cub Scouts and, as the image on the front of the coin shows, older girls as Venturers.
In the obverse (heads) design, a Cub Scout, a Boy Scout, and female Venturer stand at attention, saluting. The words "Continuing the Journey" that appear on the coin are part of the theme for the Scouts' centennial celebration. This design represents the Boy Scouts of America of today, since both older girls and younger boys can be Scouts.
The reverse (tails) design features the Boy Scouts of America emblem. The motto of the Boy Scouts, "Be Prepared," is also inscribed.
This handsome collectable coin will be made in both proof and uncirculated finishes. (You can find out what "proof" and "uncirculated" finishes are on the Coin Finishes page.)
