MEMORANDUM TO FEDERAL AGENCY CONTACTS: Nominations for the Archivist's Achievement Awards

At the 23rd Annual Records Administration Conference (RACO 2011), to be held in May 2011, NARA will again recognize outstanding achievements in Federal records management with the Archivist's Achievement Awards. These awards distinguish exceptional Federal records management programs or activities.

At last year's RACO, the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, remarked that he wanted to change the focus of future Archivist's Achievement Awards by "calling on agencies to be more collaborative and use technology in innovative ways to solve records management problems." In Archivist Ferriero's view, these awards should acknowledge how strong records management supports the goals of the Open Government directive in facilitating the collaboration, transparency, and participation in and among Federal agencies.

To assist NARA in identifying noteworthy nominees, please submit nominations that relate specifically to these goals. Examples of submissions might include:

  • A successful collaboration among agencies to resolve a significant and complex records management challenge;
  • A specific use of technology or tools to manage electronic records more effectively; or
  • A successful deployment of an open government initiative that effectively incorporates information technology (IT) and records management functionality.

Please submit your nomination to NARA via the RACO Archivist Achievement Awards 2011 survey at http://RACOarchivistsawards2011.questionpro.com. Optional supporting documentation may be emailed to RM.Communications@nara.gov. Please type "2011 Archivist Achievement Awards" in the email subject line. We must receive all nomination forms no later than Friday, February 11, 2010.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Julie Hunsaker at 301-837-0661 or by e-mail at Julie.Hunsaker@nara.gov.

We look forward to seeing you at RACO 2011!
