Senior Official to Give Remarks at the Council for Exceptional Children Convention in Denver, Colorado

Melody Musgrove, director of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at the U.S. Department of Education, will address the Council for Exceptional Children Convention in Denver, Colo., on Saturday, April 14, at 9:15 a.m. She will provide an update on federal initiatives with a focus on improving results and outcomes for infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities.

As OSEP director, Musgrove oversees the administration of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, also known as IDEA. The act ensures that America’s 6.6 million children and youth with disabilities have the right to a free, appropriate public education.

The Council for Exceptional Children is one of the largest international professional organizations dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities. The audience for this year’s convention includes special educators and early interventionists, general educators, researchers, psychologists and diagnosticians, mental health experts, curriculum specialists, parents and others.
