Abstract

Representing more than 78,000 osteopathic physicians (DOs) around the world, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) serves as the professional family for all DOs and osteopathic medical students. In addition to serving as the primary certifying body for DOs, the AOA is the accrediting agency for all osteopathic medical schools and has federal authority to accredit hospitals and other health care facilities.

Publications

The AOA publishes both professional and public information materials. Professional publications include information on osteopathic education, accreditation of hospitals and other health care delivery facilities, and physician licensing. Public information materials include introductory materials on osteopathic medicine, brochures on osteopathic physicians and osteopathic medicine, and patient education materials. A publications list is available on request. Serial publications: The DO (magazine), monthly--organization news and articles on osteopathic medicine, practice, and concepts; Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, monthly--general and specialty medical literature.
