Ohio man sentenced on child porn charges

DAYTON, Ohio - A southwestern Ohio man was sentenced to federal prison Friday for possession of child pornography.

Carson Trader, 62, of Sidney, Ohio, was sentenced in U. S. District Court here to 84 months in federal prison for possessing more than 12,000 images of child pornography. Carter M. Stewart, U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and Brian Moskowitz, special agent in charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), announced the sentence handed down today by U. S. District Judge Walter H. Rice.

Trader pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography on Sept. 18, 2008. According to a statement of facts filed with the plea agreement, ICE agents went to Trader's residence on March 6, 2007, as part of a follow-up to a child pornography investigation originating in Michigan. The agents asked to search Trader's computer where they found child pornography.

Further examination of the computer at the Miami Valley Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory found that Trader possessed more than 12,000 images of child pornography, including material depicting sadistic and masochistic conduct and other images depicting violence involving minors. Trader had downloaded some images over the Internet and acquired other images by trading with individuals online.

After his release from prison, Trader will be placed under lifetime court supervision. He will also be required to register as a sexual offender in any jurisdiction where he lives, works or is a student and to register with his new jurisdiction within three days if he moves. Trader was ordered by the court to obtain sex offender treatment while incarcerated and during his supervised release from prison. He must also perform 100 hours of community service and was ordered to have no to contact with minor children.

This investigation is part of Operation Predator, a nationwide ICE initiative to protect children from sexual predators, including those who travel overseas for sex with minors, Internet child pornographers, criminal alien sex offenders, and child sex traffickers.
