Private ambulance business owner charged with transportation of child pornography

WILMINGTON, Del. - Jason Haldeman, 37, of Landenberg, Pa., was indicted by a federal grand jury Feb. 1, 2011, on one count of transportation of child pornography, in violation of federal law. Haldeman is the owner and operator of Stat Care Ambulance Service, Inc., in West Grove, Pa.

Charles M. Oberly, III, U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced the indictment. Haldeman has been detained since his Jan. 19, 2011, arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

According to the indictment and court documents filed in the case, Haldeman was identified by HSI agents in Delaware during an online investigation into a computer network devoted to trading images of child pornography. During that investigation, an undercover agent located in Delaware downloaded 74 files depicting images of child sexual abuse that Haldeman had made available to network members.

Law enforcement agents executed search warrants at Haldeman's Landenberg residence and West Grove, Pa., office on Jan. 19. Upon entering Haldeman's private office at his business, agents found a computer logged into the computer network that had been identified during the investigation. On this computer were thousands of pictures and movies of child sexual abuse available for download by other network members. The vast majority of these images and movies depicted prepubescent and teenage boys posing lasciviously or engaged in sex acts with other boys or adult males.

If convicted of transportation of child pornography, Haldeman faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years imprisonment and a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years. Haldeman also faces a maximum fine of $250,000, and at least 5 years, up to a lifetime, of supervised release upon the completion of any prison sentence.
