GSA Provides Transition Support For Each Incoming/Outgoing Administration

The Presidential Transition Acts of 1963 and 2000 give the General Services Administration (GSA) a prominent role in this process. They authorize the Administrator of GSA to provide the President-elect and the Vice-President-elect the services and facilities needed to assume their official duties.

Laws & Regulations

Presidential Transitions in the United States are proscribed by a variety of Federal Laws beginning with the Presidential Transition Act of 1963. Additional legislation is passed to ensure that the process continues to reflect the changes in culture and technological progress.

Travel Regulations

The Federal Travel Regulation (FTR) is the regulation found at 41 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Chapters 300 through 304 that implements statutory requirements and Executive branch policies for travel by Federal civilian employees and others authorized to travel at Government expense.

GSA is responsible for developing the policies and procedures regarding employees who travel on official business. The agency has provided several pages of guidance and summaries of the FTR to assist in-coming members of the Executive Branch, and other Nominees and Appointees:
