Federal Financial Report

About Federal Financial Report

The Federal Financial Report (FFR) is a government-wide standard financial report that organizations use to report their quarterly National Science Foundation (NSF) financial grant activity. With the Research.gov FFR service, institutions can:

• Adjust financially closed awards
• Access web-based forms that are pre-populated with organization and grant information
• Download and upload the FFR attachment in Microsoft Excel format (2003 & 2007)

How does the FFR service help awardees?

• Simplifies financial reporting requirements
• Offers a single page FFR to institutions with one NSF award
• Provides ease and clarity to grant financial reporting
• Highlights new awards and awards with canceling appropriations on the FFR attachment to make them easier to identify
• Saves time by providing a standard format, consistent reporting requirements, and a single submission location

The Future of Financial Reporting at NSF: The Award Cash Management $ervice (ACM$)

The Award Cash Management $ervice (ACM$) is a new approach to award payments and post-award financial processes, which institutions will access through Research.gov beginning in 2013. ACM$ will transition financial processing of award payments from the current “pooling” method to a “grant-by-grant” method. This will require the submission of award level payment amounts each time funds are requested.  As a result, ACM$ will eliminate the need for awardee institutions to submit quarterly Federal Financial Reports (FFR).   The National Science Foundation (NSF) will continue to communicate with awardee institutions during the transition to this new service.
