Julie Bataille is the Director of CMS’ Office of Communications. In her current position, she leads strategic communications efforts for federal programs delivering healthcare to millions of Americans. Ms. Bataille oversees communications planning, marketing, creative services, web strategy, media relations and call center operations.

Before coming to CMS, Ms. Bataille was the Associate Vice President of Communications for Georgetown University. She served as university communications director, overseeing institutional web strategy, media relations, editorial publications, and protocol and events. Ms. Bataille developed strategies and tactics for institutional positioning and messaging, visual identity, earned and paid media, online partnerships and crisis communications. She also redesigned the top tier website in 2010 and launched institutional social media channels.

Before that Ms. Bataille was the Deputy Director of Communications for Vice President Gore and the Gore 2000 Presidential Campaign. In that capacity, she supervised field press staff and the campaign’s regional earned media strategy. She coordinated proactive outreach of key Gore messages and the dissemination of surrogates and challenger response. Ms. Bataille developed and implemented an issue-based marketing plan utilizing mainstream and new media to enhance candidate coverage. She led communications efforts on site in final stages of Iowa and New York primary victories.

Ms. Bataille was also Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education and in that capacity was the primary spokesperson for U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley and the federal Department of Education, developing strategies to promote the Clinton Administration’s K-12 and higher education initiatives.

Ms. Bataille was also Assistant Press Secretary at The White House during the Clinton Administration. She began her career in the office of then Senator Joe Biden.

Ms. Bataille is a communications leader with a broad range of experience advising and working with complex organizations including federal government, higher education, and political campaigns. Ms. Bataille is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She graduated with honors from Syracuse University.
