The Health Insurance Reform Information Center is a forum for information on the recent national health insurance reform and its effects on Illinois. The Department will post fact sheets, legislation, and other useful material as it becomes available. Please check back routinely for updates.

With the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act ("national health reform" or "the Affordable Care Act") on March 23, 2010, Illinois families and employers can anticipate a health insurance marketplace that will provide more meaningful benefits, be more accountable to consumers, and be more transparent. Most health insurance reforms are scheduled to be implemented and effective by January 1, 2014.
The Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) is a free statewide health insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. SHIP is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Insurance.
