How federal agencies have used VETS

Growing and securing wireless networks across Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities

An ongoing project has provided the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a wireless location-based infrastructure that delivers secure wireless communication across 300 VA sites around the nation. Through VETS, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business installed and verified the network for a broad range of data and telecommunications needs.

Around-the-clock customer help desk support for the Air Combat Command Advanced Computer Flight Plan

The Department of Defense awarded a task order through VETS to enable the Air Force Air Mobility Command, the Air Combat Command, and other flight planners to generate wind-optimized Computer Flight plans with flight profiles and routes for different aircraft configurations. VETS support entails fielding user trouble calls, updating system flight information data, loading and verifying organized track data, validating and resolving customer support issues, and assisting customers with flight planning operations.

Encouraging maximum small business utilization in contracting

The Department of Defense issued a memo on July 14, 2011, encouraging the use of VETS, among other small business GWACs, to meet the Department's small business contracting and information technology needs. Read the memo (PDF).

Comprehensive life-cycle support for the Next Generation Radar network

The National Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Air Force awarded the 10-year, $97 million Mission Support information Technology Services task order to a service-disabled veteran-owned small business through VETS. Next Generation Radar consists of a network of 167 weather radar sites, forming the foundation of all national weather forecasting and collecting data for extreme weather notification and safety systems, military operations, and emergency management systems. The small business awardee will support ongoing base operations and maintenance to the nation’s weather radar infrastructure.
