What You Can Do on Recovery.gov

Now that you have some background on Recovery and Recovery.gov, what’s next? Where can you go from here?

Go Local
A good place to start is right in your own backyard.  Take a look at your state’s summary page to find out the total dollar amount for all the Recovery contract, grant, and loan awards.  You’ll also find job numbers, the cities where most of the money went, and the top recipients.

To dive deeper, input your zip code to get the details on that road project that you see every morning on the way to work.  Or the status of the new regional library building. Or how much went to your school district.

For the Bigger Picture
Review the overall categories funded by Recovery – education, health, housing, unemployment, family services, tax benefits, for example.

Who are the Recipients?
All across the site, you’ll see reference after reference to the “recipients” of Recovery money.   Find out who the recipients are and how Recovery.gov collects their information.  You can also find out how they’ve gotten Recovery funding
If you want to know if a company in your state received Recovery funding, go to the Recipient Search tool, input the name, click go, and see all the details about the company in one place, including all the other entities that received connecting awards.

Find Information on Maps
The other way to see a lot of information in one place is on the maps.  All the contract, grant, and loan projects are located on one map.  There are also maps that show whether  Recovery money went to the places that had the greatest need – did areas of high crime get COPS funding.  There’s even a map that Lights Up showing all the projects as the awards were made.  For help in navigating the maps, watch the How to Use the Maps video.

Find an Opportunity
Number one on your list of things to do on Recovery.gov might be to find an opportunityUse the Job Search tool to look for jobs in your area and around the country.  Or access the sites where:
• You can apply for a grant,
• Find contracts up for bid
• Learn about small business loans.

Report Fraud, Waste, and Abuse
It is possible that fraudsters will try to misuse or waste Recovery funds.  If you suspect fraud has occurred on a Recovery project, we hope you will submit a Complaint form to the Board.  Allegations the Board thinks require further investigation are sent to the appropriate Inspector General.  For a personal tour of the Operations Center where the Board follows the recipients of Recovery funds, watch the Who’s Tracking Recovery Dollars video.

Take the Data
And for those of you interested in the data only, you can download it, embed it on your own site, and use it to create charts and graphs. Or you can simply access the Recovery API to build your own applications.
