Posting Jobs and Employment Information

What It Is

Include information on your website about jobs and what it's like to work at your agency. Also link to USA Jobs so the public can find information about jobs from across the federal government. This is a best practice for managing your agency’s website.

Why It's Important

Job seekers and curious citizens want to know basic information such as what jobs are available, how to apply, and what it's like to work in federal organizations.

OMB Policies for Federal Public Websites require agencies to (#1A) “disseminate information to the public in a timely, equitable, efficient and appropriate manner,” and (#2A) “maximize the quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity of information and services provided to the public.” By providing easy access to your agency's job openings, you are providing a valuable service to the public and ensuring that they can find this information quickly and easily.

How to Implement

  • If you work for a large, high-level federal agency or organization, include information on your agency website about working at your agency or sub-agencies, special jobs programs like internships and work-study, No Fear Act data, and other job and workplace information particular to your agency.
  • If your website represents a small organization, an agency staffed only by appointees, or is a cross-agency portal, you may not have much job information to post, but you should still explain how jobs are filled, or that you are part of a larger organization, and point to that organization's job information.
  • Provide a link to USA Jobs from your agency's jobs page or similar section.

Examples

Many agencies follow this best practice, which is part of the guidelines and best practices published by the Interagency Committee on Government Information to aid agencies' implementation of OMB's Policies for Federal Public Websites.
