Potawatomi Tribe Successfully Completes DOE-Supported Solar Energy Project in Wisconsin

​The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe has completed a solar photovoltaic installation project in Milwaukee, funded in part with $2.6 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The project is one of five Community Renewable Energy Deployment (CommRE) projects that received DOE funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and is the first to be completed.

IHS and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Dedicate New South Dakota Health Center

​The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, in cooperation with the Indian Health Service (IHS), will hold a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed IHS Eagle Butte Health Center in Eagle Butte, S.D., on Aug. 26, 2011. “Thanks to funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this beautiful and much-needed health center is now completed,” said IHS Director Yvette Roubideaux. “With greatly expanded space, services, and staffing, this new health center will contribute to better health and wellness for the Cheyenne River Sioux community."

Groundbreaking Ceremony on the Tule River Reservation for $8.1 Million Stimulus Project
New facility to provide basic sanitation services for tribal members
 

SAN FRANCISCO– Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency joined the Indian Health Service at a groundbreaking ceremony on the Tule River Reservation for the largest funded stimulus Tribal wastewater infrastructure project nationwide. EPA is contributing $6.3 million to the project through the Clean Water Indian Set Aside program and the Indian Health Service is providing an additional $1.8 million.

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Awarded 1,000th Recovery Act Transit Grant

Obama Administration Has Provided $8.7 Billion for Transit Vehicles, Infrastructure, Preventive Maintenance

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced today that the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has received the 1,000th grant for transit awarded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The Choctaw Nation will use the $480,374 grant for vehicle and technology upgrades.  The non-reservation tribe provides transportation services for all the residents of a 10½-county area of southeast Oklahoma where many members of the tribe live.

$90 Million in Recovery Act Funds to Bolster Water Services and Create Jobs

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's (HHS) Indian Health Service (IHS) today announced $90 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for improved access to vital drinking water and wastewater services in the American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The funds will be invested in 'shovel ready' infrastructure projects designed to better protect human and environmental health in Indian Country and to create jobs.

$8 Million In Financial Assistance Awards For Native Communities

Washington, DC - As part of an effort to highlight the local impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) investments, Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund Director Donna J. Gambrell will travel to Kyle, South Dakota to announce $8 million in financial assistance awards for Native CDFIs committed to serving economically distressed Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Communities across the nation.

IHS Releases $500M to Improve Health Care and Boost Economy
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced today that the Indian Health Service (IHS) will release $500 million allocated for improvements in Indian health in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

“These Recovery Act funds will provide critical assistance to American Indian and Alaska Native communities,” said IHS Director Yvette Roubideaux. “These funds will help improve health care, create jobs and make our native communities stronger.”

Department of Interior Announces $500 Million for Recovery Projects

Job Creation, Construction and Infrastructure Improvements, Workforce Development Focus of Tribal Community Investments


BISMARK, N.D. - Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced that the Department will fund $500 million in new school and housing construction, road and bridge improvements, and workforce development projects for federally recognized tribes across the nation. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Department's Indian Affairs office will also offer federally guaranteed loans for American Indian-owned businesses. These investments will significantly improve the quality of life in tribal communities nationwide. Overall, Interior will invest more than $3 billion through President Obama's economic recovery plan.

Department of Justice Announces Recovery Act Allocations for Indian Country

More than $248 Million Made Available to Tribes for Criminal Justice Needs


WASHINGTON - Associate Attorney General Thomas J. Perrelli announced today that more than $248 million is available for Tribes to assist with addressing the Indian Country's criminal justice needs. These funds are part of $4 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funds managed by the Justice Department to assist tribal, state, and local law enforcement and for other criminal justice activities that help to prevent crime and improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems in the United States, while supporting the creation of jobs and providing much needed resources for states and local communities.

Department of Justice On Violence Against Women Makes Available $23.6M
WASHINGTON - The Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) announced that it is now accepting applications for $23.6 million in OVW Recovery Act funds to assist American Indian governments and tribal women's coalitions combat violence against women in tribal communities. The Indian Tribal Governments Program will award $20.8 million to grantees and the Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions Program will award $2.8 million to grantees.
