The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) maintains its headquarters' offices in Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, D.C. The Baltimore location is in Woodlawn, Maryland, in western Baltimore County. It is situated in a convenient area, directly off the Baltimore Beltway (I-695), close to restaurants, stores, places of worship, and medical facilities. A new state-of-the-art headquarters complex was completed in 1995. The Washington, D.C. location is in the heart of the nation's capital, and offers all the amenities of a cosmopolitan site. There are also ten regional offices located throughout the United States - Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle.  More information on each office location is listed below.

CMS's main complex offers a great deal of amenities for the ease and benefit of it's employees. These include a cafeteria, a fitness center, a day care center, a health unit, the SSA Baltimore Federal Credit Union, a post office, and much, much more.

Cafeteria

The Cafe and Food Court located in the lower level of the Central Building offers a variety of top quality meals in a pleasant, modern surrounding.

Fitness Center

The newly renovated CMS Fitness Center is a 7,800 sq. ft. facility equipped with a mirrored exercise studio, exercise equipment, and locker rooms. It is staffed by trained fitness professionals who are there to conduct fitness assessments, consultations, equipment orientations, and provide a safe, effective, and enjoyable workout environment. Through the Physical Movement Program, the fitness center provides a wide range of aerobic classes including step, body sculpting, and kickboxing. The fitness center also offers a variety of Wellness Programs in order to help CMS employees make a positive lifestyle change. These include massage, reflexology, yoga, tai chi, and weight management. The "Fit-for-Life" fitness center represents CMS's commitment to excellence toward increasing the quality and quantity of life through health, fitness and wellness programs.

Day Care Center

Conveniently located within the CMS complex, the Child Care Center & Preschool provides care and education to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in their infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms. The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and has a licensed capacity for 77 children. The children are provided with activities that are well matched to their developmental level, and have opportunities each day to experience success so that learning occurs naturally.

Health Unit

The health unit provides a variety of services and programs for CMS employees. There are two nurses on duty daily and physicians are available two mornings a week. Routine walk-in services include, but are not limited to, blood pressure monitoring, emergency assistance, first aid, etc. The health unit offers an annual influenza inoculation program, an allergy program, and counseling on a variety of health issues. It also sponsors bimonthly blood drives and an annual health fair.

SSA Baltimore Federal Credit Union

Located on the lower level of the central building, the Credit Union is a full service banking facility including an ATM machine. Employees are eligible to benefit from the complete line of services that it offers including savings and investment accounts, checking accounts, consumer loans, home equity programs, mortgages, and much more.

Region I - Boston, MA

CMS's Boston Regional Office is located in the JFK Federal Building near the historic area of the Boston Tea Party and across the street from the historic North End. Adjacent to the JFK Federal Building is the famous Custom House and nearby you'll find the historic Bunker Hill Monument.

The building contains a Cafeteria, a large Day Care Center, a Health Unit, and a Fitness Center. There is also an ATM machine located in the Low Rise Building and many banks in the area. Employees have access to many garages and to public transportation.

Approximately an 8-minute walk will take you to about 20 Italian Restaurants, including a popular Pizzeria and a well-known candy store. The Office is within walking distance to the famous Quincy Market containing many restaurants, clothing shops and other various types of stores. The Quincy Market has managed to "beat out" Disneyland 3 years in a row in its number of visitors!

Local Attractions

Within walking distance is the landmark Faneuil Hall where many many dignitaries often speak. The Boston office is also within walking distance to the Wharves, where luncheon cruises are available to Georges Island and to Castle Island. Nearby, you'll also find Revere Beach, the oldest Public Beach in the U.S., the Park St. Subway which is the oldest public transportation in the U.S and the Boston Public Garden, the oldest public park in the U.S. A 20-minute drive from the Building will take you to the famous JFK Library where numerous Federal functions are held.

CMS's Philadelphia Regional Office is in the very attractive Public Ledger Building. It is located in the historic district directly across the street from Independence Hall and in the vicinity of many other historical sites such as the Liberty Bell, Carpenter's Hall and Betsy Ross' House.

Employees can find a cafeteria and money machine located in the building as well as many other amenities close by. The Gallery, a major inner-city mall, is located only a few blocks away. There are numerous other stores, restaurants, and banks within walking distance for employees to utilize. The office also provides easy access to several parking lots and public transportation.

CMS's Chicago Regional Office recently moved to its current location and has all new office furnishings. The office is located in a modern glass and steel building which is part of a complex of buildings making up the Illinois Center. This Center is nestled between the Magnificent Mile and Grant Park (Chicago's lake front garden). The complex houses four office towers and is home to many amenities such as restaurants, take-out facilities, card and magazine shops, a beauty salon, etc. The concourse level links the complex with the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel and the Swiss Hotel.

Nearby there are plenty of restaurants, shopping areas, and historic/tourist sites, such as Navy Pier and the Water Tower, the downtown campuses of Loyola, DePaul and Northwestern Universities, and the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Parking is available in the area, and the office is close to commuter trains and the rapid transit system, and is served by the local bus systems.

Region VI - Dallas, TX

CMS's Dallas Regional Office is located in a modern, bright, and open building featuring a soaring 11-story glass atrium with gentle waterfalls and fountains on the ground floor. This building is directly across the street from the Dallas City Hall, Dallas Convention Center, and historic Pioneer Plaza, with an impressive herd of over 30 bronze longhorns.

The building contains a Cafeteria, Health Unit, Credit Union, ATM, and impressive Wellness Center.

Restaurants and hotels are within easy walking distance of the building, including the historic Adolphus Hotel and the recently renovated Magnolia Hotel.

The Dallas Area Rapid Transit light-rail station is three and a half blocks north of the building, and can link employees to other city attractions, including: the Dallas Zoo, Union Station (for connections to Fort Worth), the West End (historic shopping and restaurant district) and the Plaza of the Americas (hotels, shopping and restaurants).

Kansas City's regional office is located in the Richard Bolling Federal Building, established in 1969, and is currently undergoing a major remodeling phase. The Federal Office Building is situated in downtown Kansas City and contains a cafeteria, day care, health unit, fitness center, bank and an ATM. The building is also along the metro bus route which takes you anywhere in the city.

Kansas City is referred to as the "City of Fountains" and the Federal Building is just minutes away from the Country Club Plaza noted for its great shopping. There are approximately forty fountains gracing this shopping area, which some say are equal to that of Rome, Italy. Kansas City is noted for barbecue, steaks, and is home to Russell Stover Candy.

Region VIII - Denver, CO

The Denver Regional Office is composed of the states of Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. It is located in downtown Denver in the Colorado State Bank Building near Civic Center Park.

The Office is conveniently situated close to the 16th Street Mall, truly the heart of Denver. The Mall is a tree-lined pedestrian promenade which runs through the center of the downtown shopping district with shuttle buses offering free transportation. Parking is available in the area, and the Office is close to public transportation (RTD bus and light-rail system), and many other amenities such as restaurants, take-out facilities, etc.

The six states comprising the Region encompass 573,297 square miles, or about one-sixth of the U.S. land mass. The total 2000 population of the Region is 9,327,451, or approximately 3.2% of the total U.S. population. Geographically, Region VIII is one of the largest of the nation's 10 CMS Federal regions. The region extends 920 miles from north to south and 960 miles east to west.
