Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the NIH State of the Science Symposium on Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS). The Symposium will be held at Lister Hill Auditorium (Building 38A) on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland on September 7-8, 2011. This one and one half day symposium will bring together clinicians and basic scientists to discuss the biological basis of MDS, approaches to risk stratification and prediction of disease progression, and molecular targets for therapeutic interventions. The emphasis of each didactic session will be to review the current knowledge of the field and to summarize recent discoveries. Each didactic session will be followed by 30 to 45 minutes of discussion.

The goal of this symposium is to identify knowledge gaps and challenges in the field, and the most promising areas for future research to address critical unmet needs of people with this syndrome. The planning committee includes members from the NHLBI, NCI, NIDDK and NIA.
