Angela C. Bates, M.B.A.
Program Analyst
Ms. Angela Bates joined the staff of the Office of Research on Women’s Health in January 2001 and is the staff lead on issues related to the inclusion of women and minorities in clinical research. She is responsible for ensuring that NIH Institutes and Centers comply with NIH policies for the inclusion of women and minorities as participants in NIH-supported clinical research. In this capacity, Ms. Bates provides technical oversight for preparing comprehensive reports to Congress, conducting analysis of extramural and intramural population data, and providing guidance regarding the requirement for sex/gender analysis as mandated by the NIH Revitalization Act of 1993. Ms. Bates also serves as the ORWH liaison to advocacy groups and other federal agencies on minority women’s health issues and is the ORWH lead for information technology projects.
At the beginning of her federal career, Ms. Bates served as a contractor working in the Office of Research on Women’s Health and was instrumental in the development of a NIH-wide population tracking system. Prior to coming to NIH, Ms. Bates served as a research coordinator for the University of Michigan, Howard University, and Lucent Technology Collaborative Access Team (MHATT-CAT). As the research coordinator for a synchrotron radiation project, Ms. Bates provided administrative coordination for three offices, prepared scientific reports, and implemented community education programs encouraging children to pursue careers in science and technology.
Ms. Bates received her B.A. degree cum laude with honors in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) in 1992 and her M.B.A. degree cum laude in Information Systems Management from UMUC in 2000. Ms. Bates has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare, academic, and research industry.
