Acadia

Lend a Helping Hand

Grades 4-6
Social Studies, Language Arts

Overview

Starting with the Acadia National Park quarter, the students will research the park’s website to learn about the contributions of various Americans to the success of Acadia and other national parks.  The students will learn about different forms of support, including philanthropy, community service, and volunteerism.  Through the “I Can Lend a Helping Hand” worksheet, the students will brainstorm and propose ways to help their own communities, then put the proposals into action using the “My Helping Hand Proposal” worksheet.
