However long this may be, it serves as an excellent resource for practitioner and clinician. I, for one, am excited about possessing this most valuable information.

There was far to much information to make this a good clinical guideline. It would be nice if there was a point by point summary of what should be done sustantiated by evidenced base trials for us to follow in the book. If more information and reference is needed then the report could be reviewed.

I agree with previous reviewers. Poor choice of font size and background color only serve to further irritate readers who are expecting a concise summary of diagnosis and management of asthma. The important details are buried in heavy text and the document is too long.

Guidelines should be a few pages long. Not 74 to 440 pages. This is a textbook. Too many subdivisions of asthma classification to be useful for the average practitioner.

What happened to the excellent 6-page summary that I used to be able to hand out to my students and to an occasional physician who hadn’t seen it yet? It is essential to keep a summary brief. I tried to use some of the charts but they are unreadable when copied. Did you plan for this information to be disseminated and actually used in practice?

Can’t print document, tables are solid black. Other tables are very hard to read.

...this is too long!!

The ever important classification and management of asthma is buried in the text. Please refer to your own 2003 summary publication that was 5-6 pages and please reproduce that format. The 2003 summary was easier to present to students than this current publication.

This is a very good guide to diagnosing and treating asthma, but it is by no means a summary. Granted it’s a novella compared to the full 440 page report, but it is still much too long to be a useful summary. A 15 to 20 page summary would be nice and we have the full report if further guidance is needed.

Very poor publicity for this important publication. What a sad waste.

star icon star icon 7/7/2008 12:58:24 PM
Since report is only available by download you would think those responsible for its design would take the reproduction needs into account. No such luck. The tables are replete with grey halftones which reproduce very poorly. Printing in black and white on a laser printer is an eyestrain. Recopying that on a copier makes it virtually unreadable. It seems the authors/producers of these "publications" are so mesmerized by the cute graphics and color schemes that they could care less about practical issues like readability. So sorely disappointed I can’t even critique the content.

The overall summary does give much useful information, and buried in it are helpful charts (though too dark - why not use color or greyscale rather than black?). I’d like a simple reference with the diagnostic and stepwise treatment charts available without having to download a >4 MB size PDF and search through it all to find them.

Trying to put both sets of guidelines (Long & Short Versions) together to help me study for the AE-C exam. Thanks.

The figures have a dark background and very light prints on the pdf format.
