  • Home heating safety from the Oregon State Fire Marshal

    As cooler weather begins to arrive, State Fire Marshal Mark Wallace advises Oregonians to have fireplaces, woodstoves, and other heating equipment inspected for safety and to use all heating appliances wisely. In the five-year period from 2007 through 2011, there were 1,891 heating-related home fires. These fires resulted in 12 deaths, 53 injuries, and more than $32 million in property loss.   • Celebrate Oregon Bounty

    Autumn in Oregon tastes good. Farms across the state are celebrating fall bounty with food festivals and bustling farmers' markets; vintners are harvesting grapes and brewers are creating winter amber ales; and chefs are anticipating the beginning of Oregon truffle season. It's a great time to go Dungeness crabbing, catch some razor clams, or pull up a seat at the table at one of the many culinary events happening around the state.

    Master in Management degree focuses on leadership
     
    A new graduate program is being offered this fall in Salem that’s particularly appropriate for people who work in government, non-profit agencies and small businesses.
     
    The Masters in Management (MiM) program aims to provide broad education around strategy, marketing, budget/finance, legal and other core concepts with an overall focus on organizational leadership. It looks to help students improve organizational performance through strong people-management skills.
