Individual Development Plans

HHS University

An individual development plan (IDP) is an important tool for anyone in today's workforce. Following an IDP can help you:

  • Improve your skills
  • Gain new experiences
  • Learn about emerging trends and technology
  • Explore unique training and development opportunities
  • Identify resources to keep your career fresh and exciting.

IDPs come in many forms, but most have the following major components:

  • A list of knowledge, skills, or abilities (KSAs) that you would like to acquire or improve
  • Corresponding activities for each KSA to help you develop in the areas you listed
  • Specific resources for each activity (classes, a mentor, a developmental assignment, etc.)

To learn more about IDPs, HHS U offers the course, Developing Your Individual Development Plan. An HHS U career counselor can help you create an IDP based on your particular needs. To schedule an appointment with the HHS U career counselor, call 301-443-1685.
