Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the NHLBI email subscription service work?

A: The NHLBI email subscription service is a Web-based program that allows you to subscribe to news and information updates on select pages of the NHLBI website, as well as to e-newsletters that provide accurate, dependable health information and announcements from NHLBI educational campaigns or programs. You choose which email updates or e-newsletters are of interest to you when you subscribe. You can manage your subscription profile to receive the types of information you desire, and you can change or cancel your subscriptions at any time. This service is provided through GovDelivery, Inc. View the GovDelivery privacy policy.edternal links icon

Q: What is a "profile," and why do I need to establish one?

A: A profile consists of your email address and the items and categories for which you wish to receive email updates. Your profile is necessary in order to send you the appropriate updates. You can change your profile at any time by adding or deleting subscriptions, or changing your email address.

To access your profile: Click on the link called "Manage Preferences" found at the bottom of each email alert and on the upper right side of this page.

Q: What if I want to subscribe to receive updates on a page that isn't listed?

A: The NHLBI is currently pilot-testing this service with a select group of pages from the NHLBI website. Therefore, you can only subscribe to receive updates on the listed pages. However, the "What's New" area of the NHLBI website includes new pages and significant updates throughout the site, so we encourage you to subscribe to "What's New on the NHLBI Website" to receive the broadest range of updates.

Q: How often will I receive email notices?

A: If you have subscribed to be alerted whenever information has been changed on specific Web pages, you’ll receive an email notice about the next relevant update. Different pages will change with different frequency. For example, updates to the What’s New page are likely to be made at least a few times a month — and sometimes more than once a day — whereas updates to legislative information are made only a few times a year. If you have subscribed to an e-newsletter, the frequency depends on the publication schedule; frequency might be twice monthly, once a month, or quarterly.

Q: Whom do I ask if I have a question about a specific program area?

A: If you are having technical difficulties with subscribing to an item or accessing your profile, please email the GovDelivery® support staff.

If you have questions about a specific program area, visit our Contact the NHLBI page.

Q: How will my email address be used?

A: Your email address will be used only to keep a record of your subscriptions and to send you the email updates you request. Your email address will never be sold or used for commercial purposes. Please see the NHLBI's privacy policy for more information.

Q: My email address is changing. Can I receive updates at my new address?

A: You can change your email address at any time.

To change your email address: Click on the link called "Manage Preferences" found at the bottom of each email alert and on the upper right side of this page. You can change your email address by clicking on the "Preferences" tab.

Q: I subscribed to receive email updates, but I haven't received any yet. Why not?

A: You should receive a “New Subscriber” email as soon as you subscribe to an item. If you do not see an email from the NHLBI, check your “Junk Mail” folder. To ensure that you receive your subscription emails from the NHLBI, please add us to your contact list, adjust your Spam settings, or follow the instructions from your email provider on how to prevent our emails from being marked “Spam” or “Junk Mail.”

If you received the “New Subscriber” email, but have not received anything further, there may be no recent website updates to notify you about, or the next scheduled e-newsletter(s) you selected may not yet have been published. If you have further questions or need technical assistance, please email the GovDelivery® support staff.

Q: How do I unsubscribe?

A: You may opt out of this service at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of each email.
